Hilong Attends 2016 China High Temperature Fireproof Coating Technology Seminar

Date 2016-10-31

(October 31, 2016, Shanghai) Recently, Hilong attended “2016 China High Temperature Fireproof Coating Technology Seminar” (Bring on the Heat China) in Shanghai jointly sponsored by the U.S. National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and CNOOC Changzhou Paint and Coatings Industry Research Institute, fully demonstrating Hilong’s leadership in coatings and new materials scientific research and technology.

Hilong New Materials Business Unit, Shanghai Hilong Shine New Material Co., Ltd., was invited and attended as a representative of the domestic coatings industry. Ren Weidong, Vice President of Hilong Group and General Manager of Hilong New Materials Business Unit, attended the opening ceremony accompanied by the technical team and held in-depth discussions and exchanges with many domestic and foreign experts from CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC, CGNPC, Akzonobel, PPG, Hempel, and Jotun.

At the seminar, Liu Qiang, Shanghai Hilong Shine New Material Co., Ltd. senior technical manager, presented a technical report entitled “Study on the Properties of an Epoxy Silicone Heat Resistant Coating and Its Applications”. The report provided a detailed introduction on protection schemes and related testing methods for metals under high temperatures and insulation.

On the development of the Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) coating industry standards, manager Liu Qiang held a discussion focused on Chinese and foreign standards, CUI testing methods, and other issues, together with experts from Sinopec Qingdao Research Institute of Safety Engineering, American PPG Industries, Denmark Hempel, Akzo Nobel International Paint, UK Felling Laboratory, and National Quality Supervision Testing Center for Paint. .

“Hilong is a leader in the field of domestic OCTG & line pipe coatings, with a philosophy of innovative development, actively explores new materials in such fields as industrial protection and ship coatings. We are committed to becoming an industry leader in domestic new materials,” said Vice President Ren Weidong, "and our participation in this High Temperature Fireproof Coating Technology Seminar not only demonstrates Hilong's superiority in coating research and technology, but also contributes to the promotion of related technological development."

Earlier, Shanghai Hilong Shine New Material Co., Ltd. and CNOOC Changzhou Paint and Coatings Industry Research Institute together drafted the domestic CUI industry standards: Anti-Corrosion Coatings for Metal Surface Under Insulation. Hilong’s participation in this Seminar discussing China CUI Standards and International Standards provided further industry professional experience and opinions in relation to metal anti-corrosion under insulation for petrochemicals and other industries.

About CUI
Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) refers to a corrosion phenomenon on the outside surface of pipes or equipment which are added an insulation layer. Because of the existence of the insulation layer, corrosion of the metal surface may accelerate. Also, given the character of strong concealment, CUI is difficult to detect, and it is hard to identify at the first instance and such that sudden and serious leakage accidents are likely to occur. Annually, global equipment and pipelines failure caused by CUI triggered a series of serious accidents such as hazardous leakage, abnormal equipment failures or even casualties, which accounted for losses of up to billions of dollars. At present, domestic CUI prevention and control technology has yet to mature.
